Along with the new coaches, Chip Hale, Dave Jauss, and Sandy Alomar, who were finally announced on Friday, the Mets unveiled the new unforms that will be worn next year. I took one look at them, and fell asleep. Either the Wilpons are going conservative after the patch fiasco last year, or they are running out of ideas. One positive thing that comes out of these uniforms is that there will be no frontal numbers, otherwise, they just look like really old jerseys. I don't even regard them as "classics", like the old pinstripes. All I can say is I'm not going to shell out 100 bucks to buy a boring jersey for christmas. I'd rather invest in a new digital camera.
Everyone, have a wonderful turkey day!

Hey Man! you're Back!
Wally Backman is coming back to the Mets, but not in the capacity I had in mind. He's managing the Cyclones in Brooklyn. No offense to Edgar Alfonso, but I honestly was getting ready to scream seeing you so many times on SNY during the rarely televised Cyclones games.
In other news, the new uniforms will be revealed in december, which I find very coincidental with the holiday shopping season. I hope they look as good, if not better, than the Twins new unis.
Fianlly, I hope the Mets realise that they have the chance to get Jason Marquis. He does want to come back to New York, which was where he has lived.

Sheffleboard
After the World series ended, several Mets filed for free agency, notably Alex Cora, Elmer Dessens, and Gary Sheffield. While Cora and Dessens can leave, for all I care, Sheffield will be hard to dismiss. Gary, who was an unlikely surprise in the nightmarish 2009 season, left us with many memories, including his 500th home run. Thanks Gary. Happy trails!
In other news, JJ Putz has not been offered an extension. However, with the bullpen still hacking up blood, I'm sure that JJ will be back.
Shawn Bowman, a prospect from Canada, has been added to the 40 man roster. He should be interesting to watch, as those Canadian baseball players are pretty adept at doing anything.
We finally have 2 base coaches. While I can't remember the newbie, Sandy Alomar Jr. gets the 1st base job. Razor Shines will be the new bench coach.
By the way, the UFL game scheduled for Citi Field was moved to Hofstra, and the Sentinels (New York) lost to the Las Vegas Locos.
I will be doing a much promised Historic Met post soon, so keep your eyes posted. After this one, I'll ask you, my loyal readers, which Met I should pick next, so please comment. I need ideas.

Acta your age
It's been pretty busy since Ken Takahashi was released. First, my Heisman post was published, but not featured prominently on Kenny's Sports site, second, I got 2 critics on my Bryce Harper piece, both of whom say I did Harper no justice. Then there was Mets news: Rafael Castro, a 19 year old pitcher in the minors, died of a heart attack, I wish the family the best. The hated Phillies made it to the world series again against the equally hated Yankees, (I was so pissed off, I decided instead to watch the Islanders beat the Rangers instead of game 1. Kudos to Johnny Tavares). Finally, the Indians signed Manny Acta, former base coach to be their manager, and Razor Shines is probably going to be named the bench coach for the Mets. At least we can have confusion on the bench, rather than the basepaths. I wonder if we can get Rickey to return to base coach?

Takahashi my life, please
Our favorite reliever from Japan, Ken Takahashi, has been released. He had a rather so-so season for the Mets, with a low ERA, but I guess because he's "over the hill" at 40, he's probably done. Life sure is a bitch when you're a rookie reliever for the Mets.

Save us, Billy
Billy Wagner has announced that he will retire following this year. Wise choice. Having pitched for close to 14 years with the Astros, Phillies, Mets, and Red Sox, playing in the postseason (but never making the world series) 6 times, making the all star team 6 times, winning the Rolaids Reliever of the year once, and saving 385 games does tire a fella. Billy, in my mind, had a great career for a closer. Whether it was pitching 95+ mph heat, putting down his team, getting into a profanity laced tirade as to why the closer was being interviewed after a loss, the Tommy John surgery, or the whole alpaca business, Billy Boy sure knew how to save.

Who ate all the pecan sandys?
The latest poll has been revealed for quite a while now, but it seems that no one pays attention unless I tell you about it. The latest poll is titled: Which of the following is most likely to become a met this offseason? Is it Roy Halladay, Matt Holliday, Freddy Sanchez, Cliff Lee, Adam Laroche, or Ben Sheets? I want to know your opinion.
In other news, Bench coach Sandy Alomar Sr. has been let go of as well. Pity, I've always thought Sandy Alomar was a good guy, but I guess he wasn't good enough, even by bench coach standards
